Roar of Steven |
Come here for all of Steven Padnick's deep deep thoughts |

If you’re talked to me in the last year, you’ve heard me go on (and possibly on) about Dear Creature. It’s an amazing book, a beautiful and original graphic novel about a Grue, a Shakespeare-spouting sea monster, and the woman he loves. It’s everything I want in a comic, funny and touching and often surprising, and I know you’ll love it too.
This book is amazing, guys, and it goes on-sale October 11th. But you can pre-order it RIGHT NOW. And I’m hoping you will. If you pre-order the book, then book stores will know there’s already a demand for it, and instead of ordering one copy (or no copies), they’ll maybe order two or three copies. The more support we have out of the gate, the better the book will do in the long run, and I guarantee we will all be happier in the end.
Look, I’ll make it easy for you, follow this link to Indie Bound, where you can order the book from your local independent bookstore. Support from these stores keeps our industry alive, and a quirky little book like Dear Creature lives on the recommendation of independent shop owners like these.
If your local independent bookstore happens to be a Barnes and Noble or one of the remaining Borders, well then you can support those stores as well. And if you must, you can always order it from Amazon. But really, I cannot stress enough how important it can be to support some of the smaller, independent stores, when you have a choice in the matter.
In case you want to know more, official copy is below:
Deep beneath the waves, a creature named Grue broods. He no longer wants to eat lusty beachgoers, no matter how their hormones call to him. A chorus of crabs urges him to reconsider. After all, people are delicious! But this monster has changed. Grue found Shakespeare’s plays in cola bottles and, through them, a new heart. Now he yearns to join the world above.
When his first attempt ends… poorly, Grue searches for the person who cast the plays into the sea. What he finds is love in the arms of Giulietta—a woman trapped in her own world. When she and Grue meet, Giulietta believes her prayers are answered. But people have gone missing and Giulietta’s nephew is the prime suspect. With his past catching up to him, Grue must decide if becoming a new man means ignoring the monster he was.
Rising from a brine of drive-in pulp and gentle poetry, Dear Creature is the love story you never imagined!
Guys, really, this book is great, and I need your support to let everyone else know how amazing it is. So please, please please pre-order this book right away, and I will love you forever.
Sincerely,
Steven
I like this cover. Not my usual reading material but I am trying to expand my reading from memoirs and YA and cozy...
